Dissolve
Dissolve
(Framed under Glass) Graphite drawing on A1 paper
The word "dissolve" is spelt out in this drawing. To dissolve ones ego is sometimes a result of deep meditation in the Zen tradition or more commonly in western culture a result of taking mind altering entheogenic substances such as LSD, DMT or Psilocybin. Dissolving into nature has often been the destination of choice of the mystic philosopher or monkish wanderers of Chinese scroll painted landscapes. The work is a call to the viewer to become one with the misty landscapes of dreamlike rock spires and Huangshan pines. Alexander, having undergone such experiences himself both naturally in such holy settings and under the influence of psychoactive substances has found great healing and relief from the anxiety of living. Such experiences elicit a noetic assurance of ones spirit. These most recent works tackle psychological issues affecting young men in the west, and act as an antidote to materialist-atheistic thinking that has resulted in the current nihilism of much of western culture.
