Melting Snow
Oil Painting on linen.
Size: 130 H x 160 W x 3.7 D cm
This painting depicts an airy spot for a mountain camp. The melting of snow for drinking water is going on. This being a very mundane yet important task for mountaineers. The fates of many climbers lives have depended on how much this simple task has been adhered too. Ridge lines are shear and encrusted in flutings of snow forming beautiful yet dangerous forms or cornices and mushrooms. This painting has been constructed from photographs of Chris Bonington's ascent of the Ogre in the Karakoram Himalayas of Pakistan.
